Royal Caribbean didn't share the passenger's identity or the circumstances of death, but Adita noted in the comments that the deceased was "a solo guest." In a follow-up video, UK Secret Travel compares the cabins of a Pinnacle member and a non-Pinnacle passenger who is also doing the full nine months. The TikToker adds that there have already been “run-ins” on the ship, and people have left for medical reasons and other reasons unknown to her.

Viewers have been eagerly following along, hoping for drama, and it seems they’ve finally gotten it. In a now-viral video, one woman says tensions are high aboard the ship because some passengers feel they’re being treated unfairly. “I made an Ultimate World Cruise Bingo card for anyone else who is buckling in for this nine months TikTok reality show,” user @whimsysoul shared in a video posted shortly after the ship’s voyage began. In the weeks since its departure from Miami, videos about the Ultimate World Cruise have proliferated on TikTok. Posts from both passengers on board – including Larson – and users at home recapping new developments and reported “drama” a la reality TV have amassed millions of views. Two days later, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told Americans to avoid travel on cruise ships, regardless of their vaccination status.

"I think that's why my TikTok skyrocketed so fast, because I was the first Black person that people were seeing post that was actually on the ship," Shannon Lake adds. Ticket rates are based on a range of 1,073 staterooms and the full 274-night trip ran from $53,999 per person to $117,599 per person. On Dec. 10, Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise kicked off its round-the-world tour. The hashtag #RoyalCaribbeanUltimateWorldCruise has already accumulated nearly 100 million views on the platform, and with the cruise liner ending its voyage on Sept. 10, 2024, that number has plenty of time to continue to climb.

"So friendly, so kind so much energy," Brandee Lake says, quashing any drama that users have attempted to stir up so far. "Our people at dinner are like family already, you know, we have people who we don't even interact with normally (who) are like family already. And of course, the staff itself is quite diverse." The sisters say they'll share the same cabin during their 9 months on the trip, and that they don't expect to butt heads too much with each other or their parents, since they're close and quarantined together during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of these users, many deeming themselves as The Ultimate Real World Cruise cast, have started to hang out with each other on the ship and post content together.

Of those who were passengers, 29 percent of deaths happened on Carnival Cruise Lines and 12 percent on Royal Caribbean Cruises. Falling overboard or onto lower decks, cardiac incidents, and suicide were the main three circumstances of death among passengers. Serenade of the Seas was about two months into its voyage—which will take travelers to parts of Brazil, Asia, Newfoundland, the Italian coast, and more–when the passenger passed. The vessel had just docked in Los Angeles after departing Ensenada, Mexico the day prior, according to its online schedule. In the clip, viewers see that her room is windowless and visibly smaller than the Pinnacle Club passenger’s room.

“Our first storm of the Ultimate [World Cruise], 60mph winds, flooding, forward elevators closed until further notice. "That is something that has kind of helped to impact my desire to travel," she explains. Users have expressed interest in following the Lake sisters in particular to see their perspective of traveling the world and taking part in a cruise as Black women.
